Brendan Sullivan, A Colorful Colony of Coral, 2022
A modernism-influenced, graphic interpretation of a Floridian coral reef. The species represented are all native to our waters: Branching Fire, Sea Fans, Sea Rods, Lettuce, Brain, and Pillar.
Working with a tall, skinny canvas is always a fun challenge, because you want to utilize the height as a strength in your design. I approached this project wanting to highlight Florida’s natural environment, but of course our state is rather flat with few naturally tall structures. That’s when I came upon the idea of a layered coral colony, and the interplay you find between its different shapes, colors, and textures. 621 Virginia Dr.
