Exciting News in Ivanhoe Village! We’re transforming a neglected space into a vibrant pocket park with native plants, sculptural seating, and local art—a perfect spot to relax and connect with our community.
What is a Pocket Park?
A pocket park, also known as a mini park, is a small urban green space designed to offer a peaceful retreat where larger parks aren’t feasible. These parks typically feature seating, landscaping, and sometimes playgrounds or other amenities. Want to know more? Click here to learn about pocket parks and how they benefit the community.
Our Vision / Our Story
In July 2021, the Ivanhoe Village Design Committee dreamed up the idea of transforming an underutilized parcel of land into a vibrant community oasis. Located in front of City Well 3# on Virginia Drive, this neglected green space had been overlooked for years. Recognizing its untapped potential, the committee set out to create a welcoming space for gathering and relaxation. Their vision aimed to beautify the Virginia Drive Corridor while fostering a stronger sense of community. Want to know more? Click here for the complete story of how it came to be.
The Design
The pocket park was destined to become an important green space midway between Mills Avenue and Gaston Edwards Park. To bring prominence to the space, a strong architectural relationship was essential. The most striking elements of the pocket park—the majestic trees and the sculptural seating—will draw visitors in as they walk along Virginia Drive. Want to know more?
